A Word from Rabbi Schulman - 9/11/2020

If you were leaving home for a ten day journey, are you the type that would just throw a few things in a bag and head out? Not likely.

But in a week, we are setting out on a spiritual expedition called the High Holy Days. To make the experience more fulfilling, there are some concrete steps I want you to take.

First and foremost, you could set out on the journey like it was any other day. But wouldn’t it feel better if you felt refreshed? Wouldn’t it be uplifting to be surrounded by beautiful flowers and family photos? Here again is an excellent guide in how to transform the space around you.

Secondly, throughout our High Holy Day services, I will be periodically posing questions for reflection. You might be tempted during this time to check emails or text messages. So I want you to be prepared by having a journal available so you can immediately respond in writing. You can write in a book; or online with an app like DayOne; or on your phone. Whatever works for you.

Lastly, you are going to need a machzor to guide you on this journey. Next week, thanks to a wonderful group of volunteers, High Holy Day kits including Mishkan HaNefesh will be home delivered. For those who want additional copies, the machzor for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are available here.

Our ten day journey begins a week from tonight. I hope you will come prepared for a meaningful and inspiring trek.
