A Word from Rabbi Schulman - 3/5/21

The month of March is noteworthy for many reasons. March 14 marks Pi Day. March 20 is the Vernal Equinox. And for fans of college basketball, this is the month for March Madness.

However, March has a new significance because it was a year ago that we were ordered in the Bay Area to shelter in place due to COVID-19. We remember the panic and fear that gripped us in the early weeks of the pandemic. A year later, all of us have been deeply impacted as we have coped with isolation and insecurity.

In Judaism, we mark passages in our lives with rituals that give shape to our experiences. We are not unique in this respect, for other faith traditions seek to do the same.

As we near the one-year anniversary of the order to shelter in place, there will be a service sponsored by the Tri-City Interfaith Council. It will be held on Thursday evening, March 18, at 7:30pm.

There will be prayers offered by many different faith leaders. There will be a sharing of readings and reflections on the themes of loss, community, and hope.

We have weathered so much in the past year. Let us affirm our interconnection to one another as neighbors and people of faith when we gather online on March 18.
