A Word from Rabbi Schulman - 11/9/18

If you look around Temple, you will see in a number of windows a poster which reads “Fremont Stands United Against Hate.” The same poster appears around town in other houses of worship as well as homes and places of business.

It is a simple, straight-forward message but one that has taken on greater meaning in the past few weeks. The threat of intimidation against minorities and immigrants; the increase in acts of violence; and the murder of eleven Jews in Pittsburgh and two African Americans in Kentucky make it feel like there is a growing wave of hate across our nation.

But when we display the poster, Fremont Stands United Against Hate, we are making a statement: not here, not now, not when we stand together and proclaim our unity.

This message is sounding forth across our region in the coming days. The first ever Bay Area United Against Hate campaign will be taking place November 10-19.

There are four events planned here in Fremont. You can read about them here.

I hope you will participate in one or more of these programs.

On the Great Seal of the United States are the words E Pluribus Unum. Out of many, there is unity. There is no better time than now to live out these words.
