Education

At Temple Beth Torah, we are a community of lifelong learners. We welcome people of all ages and backgrounds to take part in opportunities for joyful study and meaningful engagement. We celebrate the diversity of our students, and we embrace the flexibility that is sometimes needed in modern-day learning settings.

We believe that Judaism is a rich tradition that is meant to be lived. Our experiential approach to learning therefore emphasizes inquiry, creativity, and hands-on learning.

Torah Time

For our learners 9 and under, we have Torah Time, a monthly community learning series. Torah Time friends come together at Temple Beth Torah for music, Torah stories, crafts, and snacks. Join Morah Cheryl and Rabbi Zoe for fun-filled Shabbat Mornings from 10:30am to Noon on the following Saturdays during the 2023-2024 school year: 8/12, 9/16, 10/21, 11/11, 12/9, 1/13, 2/10, 3/16, 4/13, and 5/18

Click here to view our Torah Time flyer!

We encourage $36-$72 donations per family unit for the year to help us fund this and future youth programming.

K through 7th Grade Religious Education

At Temple Beth Torah, we value learning in community and one-on-one. The learning we do together is rooted in our love of Judaism and our Jewish values. Here are some of the topics covered in our learning together:

  • A love of Jewish tradition (including holidays, prayers, rituals, and Torah)

  • A foundation of the Hebrew language

  • A joyful relationship with the rhythm of Jewish life

  • A curiosity about diversity within the Jewish world

  • A sense of belonging and engagement with the synagogue community

  • A strong sense of Jewish values and how they are put into action to help others and make the world a better place (Tikkun Olam)

For students in grades K-7, our Sunday learning experience is shared with and held at Congregation Beth Emek, a Reform congregation in nearby Pleasanton with whom we often partner. Grades K-4 meet Sunday mornings from 9:45am to Noon. Grades 5-7 meet on Sunday evenings from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

Our Hebrew learning takes place one-on-one between a student and their teacher virtually on Zoom during the week at a mutually convenient, agreed-upon time. We understand that learning languages can be difficult, and this allows students to get the individualized attention and support that they may need.

8th through 12th Grade Education

In 2021, Temple Beth Torah began its Teen Intern Initiative. Post-B'nai Mitzvah teens are able to use their individual skill sets and interests to contribute to our community communications and social media research, temple history and document organizing projects, and co-facilitating diversity programs at TBT.

We are looking into additional social and educational teen programing. Please keep your eyes peeled for more details to come. If your teen is interested in an internship or other learning opportunities, please email
