At Temple Beth Torah, we are a community of lifelong learners. We welcome people of all ages and backgrounds to take part in opportunities for joyful study and meaningful engagement.
We believe that Judaism is a rich tradition that is meant to be lived. Our experiential approach to learning therefore emphasizes inquiry, creativity and hands-on learning.
Religious School - Kindergarten through 7th grade, Sunday mornings virtually from 10:00am to 12:15pm

Our students flourish as they immerse themselves in a robust, innovative, program that engages all their senses. Our multi-age classrooms allow students to develop meaningful relationships with peers, teachers, and madrichim (teen helpers in the classroom), and each receives the support and encouragement needed to thrive in his/her unique ways. All students teach, and all teachers learn. Our students learn “al pi darcho,” each according to her/his own way. As a small school offering a variety of modalities for learning, students can navigate their own experience in the style most suited to their individual strengths (art, music, poetry writing, etc.). As our students grow, we strive to nourish their souls and support their emerging Jewish identities.
At Temple Beth Torah we consider our students and their families partners in learning. We begin each session with Tefilah (prayers, songs, stories) and encourage families to participate in this part of our morning together. Parents are then welcomed to stay, help and learn, with the hope that whatever is going on in the classroom can be explored further at home.
Every aspect of our curriculum is enhanced through a lens of developing middot (character traits, virtues) and expressing Jewish values. Our teachers and madrichim are trained to model these principles, as all of us strive to walk our walk as we talk our talk, and to truly becomes lights unto others as we live to emulate our best qualities.
Hebrew School - 3rd through 7th grade, Tuesday afternoons virtually from 4:00pm to 6:00pm
While students are exposed to Hebrew letters, basic vocabulary, prayers and the sounds of Hebrew beginning in Kindergarten, more rigorous Hebrew learning picks up in 3rd grade. Our Tuesday afternoon program is designed to strengthening Hebrew language acquisition and comprehension and expose students to the rhythm and meaning of prayers and some basic modern Hebrew vocabulary and grammar. Students make solid gains in overall confidence and competence as they refine their reading skills and come to master the challenges inherent in leading tefillah (prayer service) and reading from the Torah.
Students in 5th grade and beyond who are preparing for B’nei Mitzvah gain proficiency in trope (chanting), increase their understanding of the flow of the Shabbat prayer service, and deepen their personal connections with Jewish life.
Every Tuesday afternoon begins with a brief tefillah session led by Rabbi Schulman; then the group splits into classes according to their grade and focus. Tuesday afternoons feel more intimate, and students forge even deeper relationships with each other, with the teachers, with madrichim, with the rabbi, and with themselves.
Family Shabbat Services
One Friday evening per month (and some select Saturday mornings), we all gather for a shabbat service geared for our kids and families and open to the whole community. The Religious School families then host the oneg (celebration and nosh) following the service. These Family Shabbats are joyous times that allow even for even deeper connections with family members, peers, and community and give the learning more meaning as we share this experience in sacred time.
